When you use the Client Configuration Applet to set up a client connection, the settings you put in place are stored in the systems.xml file and are used to set up the client connection. But you don’t have to use the Client Configuration Applet to put these settings in place - you can edit the systems.xml file manually.
The benefit of editing the systems.xml file manually is that it makes it easier and quicker to perform system administration on multiple clients - you can copy the file to other clients and quickly make adjustments without having to run the Client Configuration Applet on each client. However, you need to be careful because if you make an error in the file and the syntax cannot be recognized, every application that uses the systems.xml file will be unable to connect. For example, if a systems.xml file is edited incorrectly and then distributed to 20 clients, those clients will be unable to connect to the system as they will all be using a systems.xml file that is invalid. So if you are editing a systems.xml file, you need to check that it has valid syntax.

A ViewX client can connect to a maximum of 64 databases. If you use the Systems.xml file to define more than 64 databases, the client will only connect to the first 64.
