Use Template Expressions to Configure Property Values

You can use Template expressions to define property values within a Group Template. To do so:

  1. Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar).
  2. Configure the Items in the Group Template.

(The properties are that are included in the Property Overrides window will vary, depending on the items’ configuration.)

  3. Right-click on the relevant Group Template in the Database Bar.
A context sensitive menu is displayed.
  4. Select the Edit Property Overrides option (see Define which Property Values Derive from a Group Template).
The Property Overrides window is displayed.

Only certain properties can be managed by a Template expression. Properties that can be overridden using Template expressions have a combo box that allows you to select the option.

  5. For a selected property that has a combo box, select the By Expression option.
An text entry field appears alongside the combo box.

This field enables you to enter a Template expression, which is a combination of symbols and operators that ClearSCADA evaluates to obtain a single value. For information about the expressions that you can use, see Template Expressions.

At the bottom of the Property Overrides window you are provided with a section that allows you to create Template parameters for use in any of the Template expressions defined in the Property Overrides window. For more information, see Configure Template Parameters for use in Template Expressions.
