Understanding the Random Generator

The Random Generator provided as a part of ClearSCADA is a signal generator that produces simulated data for testing and demonstration purposes.

The Random Generator can produce time series of the following types, including some types of non-random output:

For each series, you can specify the sampling interval and the maximum and minimum values in the range.

You can view the output of the Random Generator by displaying the associated Trend, for example, the Trend below shows output for all four time series.

A typical use of the Random Generator could be to test the configuration of a new site in ClearSCADA before it goes live and is connected to the remote device. The Random Generator can be used to generate data in the appropriate form and range for the new installation, for example, to simulate alarm states.

For more information on Trends, see Understanding Trends in the ClearSCADA Guide to Trends.
