Archive Data Manually

You can use the Archive action to instigate an archive. This allows you to archive data at any time, rather than only according to a defined schedule. A manual archive only archives data that is eligible for archiving and has not already been archived previously.

You need to have created and configured an archive database item before you can archive data (see Create and Configure Archive Items).

To archive data manually:

  1. Check that the archive volume that is to store the archive data can be accessed by ClearSCADA (ClearSCADA needs to be able to write to the volume). If the archive volume has not already been mounted, ClearSCADA will mount the volume automatically, ready for the data writing process.
  2. Access the context-sensitive menu for the archive by either:
    • Right-clicking on the archive in the Database Bar.
      A context-sensitive menu is displayed.

      Or:

    • Selecting part of a Mimic that has been configured to provide access to the archive's actions.

      Or:

    • Selecting the archive on a List.
  3. Select the Archive option.
The archive procedure begins. ClearSCADA writes the archive data to the archive volume in accordance with the Archive's configuration and the Historic global parameters set using the ClearSCADA Server Configuration Tool.

You can use the Archives List and Archive Status Display to view the status of the archive operation.

NOTICE

LOSS OF DATA

Online data is deleted at the end of the last week of the duration it was set to be retained. If you perform a manual archive close to the time (midnight) of the last day of the last week, there may not be sufficient time for the archive to complete before the data is deleted.

The last day of the week is defined as Sunday as described in ISO 8601.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data.
