Set up a Port Server

ClearSCADA includes an application called a 'port server' that can provide:

• Remote access to serial ports—ClearSCADA (and other applications if required) can access the serial ports on a remote computer.
• Modem sharing—Multiple PSTN channels can communicate via the same modem. This is especially useful when there are limited modem resources available.
• Port sharing—Multiple direct channels can communicate using different protocols via the same serial port. The following protocols are supported:
• Modbus RTU (including SCADAPack Modbus and SCADAPack Realflo)
• Modbus ASCII
• DNP3
• IEC 60870
  

To setup a port server:

1. Determine which type of Port Server Setup provides the functionality you require.
2. Install the Port Server Software.
3. Configure a Static Serial Port if required (this is dependent on the type of port server setup).
4. Restart the Port Server Service.
5. Create the Channels in the Database.
