Set up a Port Server
ClearSCADA includes an application called a 'port server' that can provide:
- Remote access to serial ports—ClearSCADA (and other applications if required) can access the serial ports on a remote computer.
- Modem sharing—Multiple PSTN channels can communicate via the same modem. This is especially useful when there are limited modem resources available.
- Port sharing—Multiple direct channels can communicate using different protocols via the same serial port. The following protocols are supported:
- Modbus RTU (including SCADAPack Modbus and SCADAPack Realflo)
- Modbus ASCII
- DNP3
- IEC 60870
To setup a port server:
- Determine which type of Port Server Setup provides the functionality you require.
- Install the Port Server Software.
- Configure a Static Serial Port if required (this is dependent on the type of port server setup).
- Restart the Port Server Service.
- Create the Channels in the Database.
