Define an Independently Switching Outstation’s Preferred Channel

This section applies to shared outstations on which the Switch Type is set to Independent (see Define a Shared Outstation’s Switching Capabilities).

Use the Preferred Line combo box toward the top of the Shared tab to define the channel that you would prefer the outstation to use for communications with the Geo SCADA Expert server. The driver will use the selected channel in preference to the other channel that is assigned to the outstation’s Set, providing that the preferred channel is healthy and the Switch Line pick action has not been used to switch the outstation to the other (non-preferred) channel.

Use the combo box to select either the channel that is assigned to Line A on the Shared Outstation Set Form, or the channel that is assigned to Line B. Ideally you should assign an equal number of outstations to each channel, to distribute the outstations evenly between the two channels (see Communications via Either Channel).

The outstation set’s Balance status attribute indicates the percentage of outstations that are currently using each channel in the set. The attribute is shown on the outstation set’s Status display (see Status Displays).
