Introduction to Alarm Redirection

Alarm Redirection enables alarms to be redirected to engineers that are not manning a Geo SCADA Expert workstation—for example, engineers that are on site. It also allows other actions, such as performing a one-shot call on an outstation, to be undertaken automatically when particular alarm situations occur.

Intended Audience

This guide is intended for users who need to perform any of the following tasks:

Document Scope

This guide explains how to use Geo SCADA Expert’s alarm redirection feature. The alarm redirection feature allows Geo SCADA Expert to redirect an item’s alarms:

Alarm redirection is available for database items that can have alarms, including, for example, points, outstations, and channels. Each item can have up to 15 alarm redirections. However, if the item is in a Group, further alarm redirections can be applied on a group-wide basis, as the Group can also have alarm redirections.

Alarm redirections can be cascaded—if the alarm is redirected, and has not been dealt with within a defined time, the alarm can be redirected again, using a different redirection action.

For more information, see Understand Alarm Redirection.

This guide explains the considerations and Preparation that is required before configuring alarm redirections on a system. For information on Setting up Alarm Redirections and all other features of Alarm Redirection, see the topics that are listed in the gray footer section at the bottom of this topic. Select the relevant entry to display the topic that you require.

Geo SCADA Expert can be configured to trigger a particular Method Action immediately, whenever an alarm state change occurs, regardless of the alarm priority or when the alarm changes state. If this is required, consider whether to configure a Method on the Alarm tab of a Form (see Configure a Method Action to Trigger at Every Alarm State Change in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Core Configuration).
