Specify whether ‘Simple’ Events are Shown in the Status Bar
You can use the Option window’s Alarms and Events tab to define whether messages for ‘simple’ events are shown in ViewX’s status bar. ‘Simple’ events are logged for state changes that do not relate to alarm conditions or user-initiated actions, such as controls.
By default, the Status Bar is set to have ‘simple’ events disabled, as this reduces the amount of network traffic on the system.
When choosing whether to show ‘simple’ events in the Status Bar, you need to consider:
- Whether users need the client to update the Status Bar with ‘simple’ events. Being able to view ‘simple’ events in the Status Bar can be useful, especially if users are working with other displays such as Mimics. But displaying ‘simple’ events in the Status Bar does require additional system resources.
- The resources required to display ‘simple’ events. If the Status Bar is set to display ‘simple’ events, this increases network traffic as the server has to update the client each time a ‘simple’ event occurs. On larger systems, the amount of additional network traffic can contribute toward slow performance issues, which is why the Include Simple Events in Status Bar check box is disabled by default.
To specify whether ‘simple’ events are shown in the Status Bar:
- Log on via a user account that has the Configure Options permission, and then display the Options window.
- Select the Alarms and Events tab.
- Either:
- Select the Include Simple Events in Status Bar check box to set the Status Bar to show messages for ‘simple’ events
Or:
- Clear the Include Simple Events in Status Bar to stop the Status Bar from displaying messages for ‘simple’ events.
- Select the OK button to confirm your selection.
