Which Driver?
Geo SCADA Expert can communicate with SCADAPack outstations using one of several drivers. The driver that you need to use depends on the type of SCADAPack device(s) with which Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate.
If Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate with SCADAPack E outstations, or 386 eNET outstations, your system needs to run the DNP3 driver, along with the DNP3 SCADAPack E extension driver. Use these drivers to enable Geo SCADA Expert to communicate with these SCADAPack outstations using the DNP3 protocol; with the DNP3 SCADAPack E extension driver providing support for extended SCADAPack DNP3 functionality. Refer to the rest of this driver guide and the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the DNP3 Driver for information on configuring your database accordingly. (586 eNET outstations are now known as SCADAPack ES outstations and Magna eNET outstations are now known as SCADAPack ER outstations. Both types of outstation are models in the SCADAPack E range of outstations.)
If Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate with SCADAPack 50 devices, your system needs to run the SCADAPack 50 driver. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the SCADAPack 50 Driver.
If Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate with SCADAPack x70 devices, your system needs to run the SCADAPack x70 extension driver, along with the relevant parent driver (the parent driver for the communications protocol that Geo SCADA Expert is to use to communicate with the SCADAPack x70 devices). For example, the DNP3 driver, if Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate with SCADAPack x70 devices using the DNP3 protocol. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the SCADAPack x70 Driver.
If Geo SCADA Expert is to communicate with other series of SCADAPack devices, your system needs to run the SCADAPack Modbus driver, to enable Geo SCADA Expert to communicate with those devices using the Modbus protocol. For more information, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the SCADAPack Modbus Driver. (SCADAPack E outstations also support the Modbus protocol, however the E Modbus support is not compatible with Geo SCADA Expert’s SCADAPack Modbus database items. For Geo SCADA Expert to communicate with SCADAPack E outstations using the Modbus protocol, use the 'standard' and ‘Generic’ Modbus database items with Geo SCADA Expert’s SCADAPack Modbus driver, or use the Simple Modbus driver.)
For Geo SCADA Expert to communicate with other series of SCADAPack devices using the DNP3 protocol, use the ‘standard’ and 'Generic' DNP3 database items provided with Geo SCADA Expert’s DNP3 driver (as opposed to DNP3 SCADAPack E items). The DNP3 support provided by other series of SCADAPack devices is not compatible with Geo SCADA Expert’s DNP3 SCADAPack E range of database items. For information on ‘standard’ and 'Generic' DNP3 items, see the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to the DNP3 Driver.
