You can use the Server Configuration Tool’s Case Sensitive Usernames check box to define whether user names are case-sensitive.
By default, the Case Sensitive Usernames feature is disabled (the check box is clear), and Geo SCADA Expert treats upper case and lower characters as the same. For example, the character ‘C’ will be used as if it were the same character as ‘c’.
If you select the check box, Geo SCADA Expert regards upper case characters as different to lower case characters. For example, the upper case character ‘C’ is a different character to the lower case ‘c’.
ATTENTION: Before disabling Case Sensitive Usernames on an operational system, you should check that the system does not have user accounts with the same name (but using different case). If you disable Case Sensitive Usernames on a system that has users with the same name, those users will become invalid.
The Case Sensitive Usernames setting affects:
- The creation and renaming of user items.
If Case Sensitive Usernames is enabled, you can create two users with the same name (as long as different case characters are used). However, if Case Sensitive Usernames is disabled, you cannot create two users with the same name but using different case characters (as these will be regarded as identical).
- Logging on.
If Case Sensitive Usernames is enabled, users have to enter the name of their user account in the correct case to log on. For example, to log on via a ‘J Marlow’ user account, you would need to enter the J and M in upper case and the other characters in lower case. If Case Sensitive Usernames was disabled, you could enter ‘J Marlow’ in any case and log on successfully.
