Define a User's Navigation Access in Original WebX

The properties on the WebX tab of User Forms and User Pattern Forms apply purely to Original WebX. To configure settings for ViewX and Virtual ViewX clients, you use the properties on the ViewX tab of the User Form or User Pattern Form (whichever is applicable to your system setup).

The properties described in this topic apply both to User Forms and User Pattern Forms. (User Patterns only apply to systems on which Geo SCADA Expert can create new User accounts automatically as part of an External Authentication process. For more information, see Create User Accounts from a User Pattern.)

You can configure a user account so that users that log on via the account can only access certain types of display in Original WebX. For example, you can choose to restrict a user account so that it only has access to Queries Lists and cannot be used to browse the database. This is useful when there are users that only require limited access to the system.

You use the WebX tab on the User Form (or, if applicable, the User Pattern Form) to define a user's navigation access for when they log on to an Original WebX client. Regardless of a user's security settings, an Original WebX client only provides operator-level access to the system. As such, you can only specify the operator-level navigation to which the user has access.

To define a user's navigation access in Original WebX:

  1. Either:

  2. Select the WebX tab.
  3. In the Show navigation for section, select the check box for each type of navigation access that you want to be made available to the user that logs on to Original WebX via this account.

    The options are:

    • Database—Provides operator-level access to the system's database items (see Browse your Database on a WebX Client).
    • Queries—Provides operator-level access to SQL Queries Lists (see View and Action Lists on a WebX Client).
    • Operator Documents—Provides access to documents that are included in any Operator Document Stores to which the user has access. For more information, see Access Your Document Stores on a WebX Client.

To have access to Operator Documents via the Documents command on the navigation bar in Original WebX, at least one operator document has to exist in an Operator Document Store to which the user has access.

    • Favorites—Provides access to the user's Favorite displays.

To have access to Favorites via the Favorites command on the navigation bar Bar in Original WebX, the user has to have at least one existing Favorite entry.

  4. Save the configuration.
