Start a Database Instance Automatically

If you want a database instance to run automatically when Windows starts up, you need to:

This registers the database instance as a Windows service. By default, the database instance will then run automatically when Windows starts up.

If the database instance does not have the Register as Service option selected, you can only start the database instance manually.

You can change the way in which Windows starts a database instance that has been registered as a service. To do this, you need to:

  1. Access the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services tool in Windows.
  2. Right-click on the database instance in the list. The name of the service will be 'Geo SCADA Expert Server (<database instance name>)'. <database instance name> is the Name defined for the database instance when it was first created (see Add a Database Instance).
  3. Choose Properties.
  4. Choose the required Startup Type.

You can also use the Services tool to Start, Stop and Restart the database instance manually. The name of the service will be 'Geo SCADA Expert Server (<database instance name>)'. <database instance name> is the Name defined for the database instance when it was first created (see Add a Database Instance).

If you have registered a database instance as a service, you can also Start and Stop it manually by using the Geo SCADA Expert Service Manager or the Server Icon (see Start a Database Instance Manually)

Typically, when a database instance runs, a server icon for the instance is shown in the Windows system tray (so the system tray can show multiple server icons). However, the server icon only starts automatically if you selected the Run ServerIcon on Startup option when you created the database instance. If you did not select the Run ServerIcon on Startup option, the server icon will not run automatically for the database instance, but you can run it manually (see Run the Server Icon for a Database Instance)
