SCADAPack x70

Control the Analog Output Point

To control the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Output point that you configured earlier in this tutorial:

  1. Display the Mimic that you created for this tutorial.
  2. Ensure that you are viewing the Mimic in Run mode.
  3. Click on the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Output Point on the Mimic.
    A context-sensitive menu is displayed.
  4. Select the Control option.
    The Control window is displayed.
  5. Enter a value between 0 and 100.
  6. Continue sending controls to the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Output Point—send controls that change the output by amounts greater than 1.0, and controls that change the output by amounts smaller than 1.0.
  7. View the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Input Point’s value on the Mimic. Notice that when the output value changes by 1.0 or more, the input value is updated. When the output value changes by less than 1.0, the input value remains unchanged. This is due to the input point’s Value Deviation settings. If you open the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Input Point’s Form, on the Analog Point tab you will see that the Event Deviation Type is Percentage, and the Event Deviation is 1. This means that the input has to change by 1% in order for the SCADAPack 575 device to generate an event. Additionally, as the Unsolicited Events (DNP3 Only) check box is selected, this triggers the SCADAPack 575 device to report the analog input point's changes to Geo SCADA Expert within 10 seconds of them occurring. (If the check box was not selected, the SCADAPack x70 device would wait to report the changes in the hourly integrity poll, or as part of any scheduled Class 1 polling.)

The 10 second delay before the SCADAPack 575 device reports the point's changes to Geo SCADA Expert is due to the Event Notification Delay on the SCADAPack 57x Device Configuration Form. This setting defaults to 10 seconds and is designed to reduce the frequency with which individual messages are passed through to Geo SCADA Expert. It does this by 'batching up' any messages that occur within the delay time and then sends them together once the delay has elapsed.

  8. Display the Historic Lists of the SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Input and SCADAPack x70 DNP3 Analog Output points to view the data that Geo SCADA Expert is storing historically for those points.
