Edit a Severity Range

You can edit the settings of each severity range to suit your requirements.

Each severity range has:

• A number that defines the lowest number in the severity range.
• A description that provides a textual description of the range, for example, Low.
• Colors for each of the alarm states that can be shown on an Alarm display such as the Alarms List and Alarm Banner.
• An alternative flash color for each of the alarm states.
• Colors for each of the alarm states that can be shown on non-Alarm specific displays such as Queries Lists and Mimics.
• Settings that determine which alarm actions are available to users.

You can use the Modify Severity window to change any of the settings listed above as well as the Alarm Analysis settings. Typically, the settings are adjusted to incorporate additional severity ranges and to apply a custom color scheme for alarms.

To edit a severity range, you need to:

1. Access the Geo SCADA Expert Server Configuration Tool (see Accessing the Geo SCADA Expert Server Configuration Tool).
2. Expand the Database Configuration branch of the tree structure.
3. Select Severities.
   The Severities section is shown. It contains a list of the severities in place on your system.
4. Right click on the severity that you want to edit. This displays a context sensitive menu.
5. Select the Modify option.
   The Modify Severity window is displayed.
6. Use the Priority spin box to define the lowest value that is to be included in the severity range (see Define the Priority and Description for a Severity)
7. Enter brief information about the severity range in the Description field (see Define the Priority and Description for a Severity).
8. Use the Sound field to Associate a WAV Sound File with a Severity Range.
9. Use the Colors section to define the colors that are used for the foreground of alarms in this severity. The foreground colors are applied on a variety of alarm displays such as the Alarms List and Alarm Banner (see Define the Foreground Colors for a Severity).
10. Use the Background Colors section to define the colors that are used for the background of alarms in this severity. The background colors are applied on a variety of alarm displays such as the Alarms List and Alarm Banner (see Define the Background Colors for a Severity).
11. Use the Alarm Analysis section to define the amount of time permitted between alarms in this severity range being raised and received, received and acknowledged, and received and cleared (see Define the Alarm Analysis Periods for a Severity)
12. Use the Allowed User Actions section to define which alarm pick actions are available for the alarms in this severity range (see Define the Allowed Actions for a Severity).
13. When you have defined the various settings for the severity, you can select the OK button to close the Add Severity window or the Modify Severity window. To apply the changes you have made, you will need to right-click on the system in the Server Status Tool, and then select the Apply Changes option from the context sensitive menu.
