You can install Geo SCADA Expert on any server or client computer that meets the recommended specifications:
You can use the Geo SCADA Expert DVD to install Geo SCADA Expert server, Geo SCADA Expert Client, and Data Access components. You will choose which components are to be installed during the installation process.
Geo SCADA Expert 2020 onwards supports the use of certificates to initiate secure connections and encrypt the data that is transmitted between Geo SCADA Expert servers and clients. We strongly recommend that you obtain certificates from a trusted certification authority for such communications. With such a setup, you have to store the trusted certificates on the relevant machines before Geo SCADA Expert can be configured to use those certificates (see Certificates for Geo SCADA Expert Server and Client Connections).
Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards. We strongly recommend that you install the Virtual ViewX server on a different machine to the Geo SCADA Expert server. This is to avoid potential performance issues due to the number of resources that each application uses.
If you do install Geo SCADA Expert and Virtual ViewX on the same machine, both applications must have the same version and build number. This is because the applications share some resources.
To install Geo SCADA Expert on a server or client computer:
- Run the Geo SCADA Expert Installer and select the Install Geo SCADA Expert option.
The Installer will then either:
- Run the Geo SCADA Expert Setup Wizard. The Setup Wizard provides a series of ‘pages’ that guide you through the installation process.
Or:
- Install any prerequisite software that is not already installed on your computer. The software is installed from the Geo SCADA Expert DVD. When the prerequisite software is installed, the Setup Wizard will run.
- Use the various ‘pages’ of the Setup Wizard to make selections relating to the Geo SCADA Expert installation:
- If your Geo SCADA Expert system is to include OPC clients that communicate with Schneider Electric PLCs, Install OPC Factory Server on each server that is to operate as a Schneider Electric OPC Server.
