Repairing your Geo SCADA Expert Installation

Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards. We strongly recommend that you install the Virtual ViewX server on a different machine to the Geo SCADA Expert server. This is to avoid potential performance issues due to the number of resources that each application uses.

If you do install Geo SCADA Expert and Virtual ViewX on the same machine, both applications must have the same version and build number. This is because the applications share some resources.

You may be able to use the Geo SCADA Expert Installer to repair certain types of installation problem, such as:

The Repair feature will attempt to restore the Geo SCADA Expert installation so that it is as close as possible to the default Geo SCADA Expert installation. In many cases, this will resolve installation problems.

To repair your Geo SCADA Expert installation:

  1. Shut down the Geo SCADA Expert server. (The installation process requires the server to be shut down.) For information on shutting down a server, see Stop the Geo SCADA Expert Server in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Server Administration.

  2. Run the Geo SCADA Expert installer. To do this, insert the Geo SCADA Expert DVD and select the Install Geo SCADA Expert option.
    The Geo SCADA Expert Installation wizard runs.
  3. Select Next.
  4. Select Repair.
  5. Select Repair.
    The Geo SCADA Expert installation wizard will attempt to repair the installation.
  6. Select Finish to complete the installation process.

Alternatively, you can use Windows:

  1. Use the Uninstall or Change a Program feature in the Control Panel in Windows®. (For information about accessing the Control Panel, please refer to the Windows help.)
  2. In the Control Panel, select Programs and Features.
  3. Select Geo SCADA Expert in the list. You will see that the menu options change and now include Repair. Alternatively, you can right-click on Geo SCADA Expert in the list to display a context-sensitive menu that contains a Repair option.
  4. Select Repair to repair Geo SCADA Expert. Windows will attempt to use the Geo SCADA Expert installer to repair your Geo SCADA Expert installation.

NOTICE

INABILITY TO RUN Virtual ViewX

Do not delete, or change the password of, the VVXLocalUser that is created automatically in Windows when Virtual ViewX is installed on the Virtual ViewX server. This user account is required to run the ViewX processes on that server machine. For more information, see User Account Created Automatically on the Virtual ViewX Server Machine.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in inoperable equipment.
