Using a Virtual ViewX Client
NOTE: This branch of topics relates to the Virtual ViewX client that is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards, for which the web server is hosted using IIS. For information about the deprecated Original WebX client that is supported by this and earlier versions of Geo SCADA Expert, click here.
You can use a web browser such as Google Chrome to access your system remotely. A PC that accesses the system via a web browser is called a Virtual ViewX client. You can use a Virtual ViewX client to access the operational features of Geo SCADA Expert, including alarm response features and controls. Your system’s security settings (user accounts, permissions, passwords and so on) also apply to Virtual ViewX, and help to protect Geo SCADA Expert from unauthorized access by Virtual ViewX clients.
Virtual ViewX provides access to operator-level features. For configuration features, you need to use a ViewX client.
For the tutorial, you are going to access your system via an up-to-date version of Google Chrome, so you need to have this application installed on your PC. For information on Google Chrome, refer to the Google website at https://support.google.com. For information on other supported browsers see Web Browser Support.
If you haven’t completed the earlier sections of the tutorial, you will also need to import some configuration. The configuration comprises a collection of database items with which you can interact and use to generate values and alarms:
- Log On to ViewX as the user 'EngExample' (see Log on to your System).
- Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar).
- In the Database Bar, right-click on the System icon then select Import from the context-sensitive menu. This displays the Import From window.
- In Windows, browse to
C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\Tutorial Files
. - Select the SerialComms.sde file
- Select the Open button to close the Import From window and import the file.
- Repeat this process, only instead of importing the SerialComms.sde file, import the following files (in the order shown below):
- MyFirstTest.sde
- SiteTemplate.sde
- SiteABCInstance.sde
- SiteDEFInstance.sde
When you have installed the Google Chrome browser on your PC and you have imported the configuration (if required), you can proceed to access your system via the web interface:
- Display the Virtual ViewX Interface and Log On to the System.
- Use the Mimic Navigation Tools to Access other Displays.
- Display a List of System Alarms via Virtual ViewX.
- Display a List of System Events via Virtual ViewX.
- Display a Queries List via Virtual ViewX.
If you are automatically logged off when using Virtual ViewX, you should log back on using the 'EngExample' user account.
