Terminology
This topic summarizes some of the terminology that is used in this guide.
MVT
(multivariable transmitter)
You can use the SCADAPack Modbus Realflo driver to specify which MVT sensor a flow run uses on a Realflo-enabled SCADAPack controller that includes MVTs, or on a Rosemount™ multivariable Fieldbus transmitter.
Throughout this guide, we use the term 'sensor' to refer to a device that detects or measures a physical signal. When using this driver with controllers that have MVTs, assume that 'Sensor' also refers to 'MVT Sensor'.
outstation
Throughout most of the advanced driver documentation, the term ‘outstation’ is used to refer to any device such as a data logger, programmable logic controller (PLC), outstation, or RTU that is used to obtain data from measuring instruments or sensors.
Realflo controller
Within the Geo SCADA Expert SCADAPack Modbus documentation, the term ‘Realflo controller’ is used to refer to a SCADAPack-series controller that is running Realflo, and with which Geo SCADA Expert communicates in order to retrieve flow calculation data. (If Geo SCADA Expert is not to retrieve flow calculation data from a SCADAPack controller, you configure a SCADAPack controller, rather than a Realflo controller, in the Geo SCADA Expert database.)
