Define whether a Point uses the RTU Alarm Limits
You can choose the set of alarm limits that a SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point uses. By default, an analog or a counter point inherits the alarm limits and the Alert Clear Value Deadband field's value from its associated Configuration item. These are the same limits that the RTU (SCADAPack x70 device) uses to generate events. An analog or a counter point can also have its own local set of alarm limits and Hysteresis, independent of the RTU's configuration.
The Alarm Limits section on the <Point Type> tab contains the Use RTU Alarm Limits check box. You use this check box to define whether the SCADAPack x70 protocol-specific point uses the alarm limits that are inherited from the associated Configuration item. By default, this check box is selected. Clear this check box if you are to define a set of local alarm limits, independent of the alarm limits in the RTU, regardless of which alarm limits are enabled in the RTU.
When using local alarm limits and when the limits are transgressed, the RTU does not generate any events. Therefore there may be a significant delay before Geo SCADA Expert detects a state change and raises an alarm or logs an event accordingly. A state change could therefore be missed entirely.
If the Use RTU Alarm Limits check box is enabled, the Limit column is disabled and the point inherits the alarm limits that are set in the associated Configuration item. When you enable this check box, the Hysteresis field is also disabled, and the point uses the inherited Alert Clear Value Deadband value.
The RTU Enabled column in the Alarm Limits section indicates whether that alarm limit is enabled in the RTU. The RTU Limit column indicates the alarm limit value of the RTU alarm limit.
If the Use RTU Alarm Limits check box is clear, the Limit column is enabled for use. The Hysteresis field is also enabled for use. For more information, see the topics listed below.
