Actions Associated with Advanced EWS Servers

The following are actions specifically associated with Advanced EWS Servers:

• Enable Comms Logging—Use this pick action to enable communication logs to be created.

  Security permission required to access this pick action: Disable Points

  

  Use the Enable Comms Logging window to determine whether the logging continues until it is disabled manually:

  • Select the Persist check box to set communications logging so that it remains enabled until it is explicitly disabled. Communications logging will remain enabled even after the driver stops or a changeover occurs.
  • Clear the Persist check box to temporarily enable communications logging—communications logging is enabled but will end when the driver stops or a changeover occurs

    'Normal' communication log files store information about 'good' communications between the Geo SCADA Expert server and the outstations and modems. This information is useful when investigating the possible causes of unexpected communications problems. If you experience communications problems on your system, Schneider Electric support staff may request that you enable communications logging and provide the resultant log file.

    To maximize system performance, we advise that you only enable communication logging on a channel when required. You should leave it disabled at other times.

    When you have finished logging the communications, we recommend that you disable the logging feature. This helps to ensure better system performance and that available disk space is optimized.

• Disable Comms Logging—Use this pick action to stop communications logging.

• Enable Server—Use this pick action to place a server In Service. Triggering the action changes the server's configuration so that its In Service property is enabled. Once enabled, the server becomes active.

  Security permission required to access this pick action: Disable Points

  The Enable Server pick action is only available for a server:

  • That is not In Service
  • For which your User Account is allocated the Disable Points security permission.

    If using this pick action with the Automation Interface, you need to specify the method name Enable.

• Disable Server—Use this pick action to take a server Out of Service.

  Security permission required to access this pick action: Disable Points

  The Disable Server pick action clears the server's In Service property, so that the server is no longer active.Geo SCADA Expert logs an entry in the Event Journal whenever either pick action is used. The entry indicates whether the server has been enabled or disabled.

  Be aware that disabling all of a group's servers leaves the group in a 'Disconnected' state, although the configuration will remain unchanged.

  If using this pick action with the Automation Interface, you need to specify the method name Disable.

  The 'Disable...' series of pick actions are assigned the 'Disable Points' security permission so that users with that permission can disable database items without necessarily being given the full 'Configuration' security permission. A user, such as an operator, whose User Account is given the 'Disable Points' permission but not the 'Configure' permission can disable a database item, but is prevented from altering the rest of that item's configuration.
