Database Security
At the planning stage, you need to consider database security. The Geo SCADA Expert database can be ‘secured down’ so that users only have access to the features and areas of the database with which they need to work. Geo SCADA Expert includes a variety of security features, including the need to log on to the system with a valid user name and password in order to gain access. You can also configure certain action requests so that users have to enter their logon password before Geo SCADA Expert executes such requests (see Requesting Confirmation of Action Requests).
A User Account needs to have been allocated the Configure Database feature, in order to enable that user to configure items in the database (see Define the ViewX Configuration Settings for a User).
Additionally, every item in the database is allocated a set of Permissions, which determine the level of security that is applied to that item. You can set permissions on a per Group or per item basis. For further information, see Allocating Security Permissions.
You can also use the Area of Interest feature to restrict each user’s alarm and event access to only those alarms and events that are associated with particular area(s) of the system. Users are unaware of any alarms and events that are generated outside their allocated area(s) of interest. Area of Interest is an optional feature that is not enabled by default—for more information, see Restrict Alarm and Event Access to Specific Areas of Interest.
