Using Parameters to Store Static Data Values
Geo SCADA Expert supports a series of Parameters that can be used to store static data values, such as a postal address, or map grid reference. Consider using Parameters if the data that you want Geo SCADA Expert to store is:
- Intended to remain static
- Internal to Geo SCADA Expert (it is not associated with plant)
- Not directly associated with other items in the database (such as individual points, outstations, or scanners).
You can use Parameters, for example:
- To display static data on Mimics, or in Reports.
- To store static data used in Logic programs—for example, store the target value for an analog point.
- As an alternative to ‘custom’ fields. (Unlike custom fields, when you add a new Parameter to Geo SCADA Expert, you do not need to restart the server.)
Unlike Variables or Internal Points, users need the Configure permission, rather than the Control permission, to change a Parameter’s value. This provides additional security to help ensure that data that is intended to remain static is only changed by users with that permission.
This section:
- Summarizes the different Types of Parameter that Geo SCADA Expert supports.
- Explains the circumstances that determine when you would use a Parameter rather than a Variable or other database item (see Parameters versus Points and Variables).
It also explains how to:
Also included is a series of examples that demonstrate how Parameters might be used on a Geo SCADA Expert system (see Example Configuration).
