IEC 61850

Throughout this guide, any device (for example, an outstation or RTU) with which Geo SCADA Expert communicates using the MMS protocol as per the IEC 61850 standard is referred to as an IEC 61850 device.

Similarly, any input or output on such a device is referred to as an ‘IEC 61850 point’.

Every IEC 61850 device has a Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) document that describes what functionality is provided. You need access to this document, or need to be aware of which functions each device supports, when configuring IEC 61850 items in Geo SCADA Expert.
