Birth Certificate

Associated with: MQTT Sparkplug™ B EoN Nodes and MQTT Sparkplug B Devices

Once it has been in communications with the broker with which an EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device is associated, Geo SCADA Expert receives a Sparkplug birth certificate for that EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device. A copy of the birth certificate is then cached for use by the Geo SCADA Expert server.

On a new system, or following expansion of an existing system, you can then use the Create Points from Birth Metrics pick action to trigger Geo SCADA Expert to automatically create the relevant MQTT Sparkplug B Points in the database. The pick action is only available for use on an EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device once Geo SCADA Expert has received the Sparkplug birth certificate for that EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device.

The Birth Certificate status attribute indicates the time and date on which Geo SCADA Expert last received a Sparkplug birth certificate for the selected EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device.

If Geo SCADA Expert has never received a Sparkplug birth certificate for the selected EoN Node or Sparkplug B Device, the status attribute displays the value:

Birth message not received

This latter value typically only applies when the database item has been newly created and not yet placed In Service.
