Quick Start Tutorial - Geo SCADA Expert
This section provides a guided tour to lead you through connecting a SCADAPack 575 device to Geo SCADA Expert, and then communicating with that device using the DNP3 protocol. This tutorial uses Geo SCADA Expert as the primary configuration source. Although the procedures are for a SCADAPack 575, similar steps can be undertaken for other SCADAPack x70 models.
To perform the tutorial, you require:
- A computer on which the following Geo SCADA Expert components are installed:
- Geo SCADA Expert server
- Geo SCADA Expert client
- SCADAPack x70 driver and associated DNP3 communications protocol.
- A computer on which the SCADAPack x70 RemoteConnect software application is installed
- A SCADAPack 575 device and power supply
(ensure that the SCADAPack 575 device includes the 2 analog outputs that can optionally be ordered as built-in I/O on the device) - A 0.063 A fast-acting fuse (to install on the input voltage side of the analog output power supply)
- A 1.6 A fast-acting fuse (to install on the input voltage side of the SCADAPack 575 device's power supply)
- An Ethernet cable (to connect the Geo SCADA Expert server to the SCADAPack 575 device)—see the hardware documentation for the SCADAPack 575 for information about the type of cable that you can use
-
A USB cable (to connect the computer running RemoteConnect to the SCADAPack 575 device) — see the hardware documentation for the SCADAPack 575 for information about the type of cable that you can use
- Two short lengths of insulated copper wire (to connect one of the device's analog outputs to one of the analog inputs)
- A small flat head screwdriver (to adjust the connectors that you use to terminate the wiring).
You can either use RemoteConnect or Geo SCADA Expert to perform the majority of the SCADAPack 575 device configuration.
To use Geo SCADA Expert as the primary source of configuration for a SCADAPack 575 device, proceed as follows:
- Confirm that the Relevant Geo SCADA Expert Components are Installed.
- Set Up the SCADAPack 575 Device.
- Create the SCADAPack x70 Database Items.
- Export the Configuration to a .RTZ File.
- Import the Configuration to RemoteConnect.
- Build the Application Logic.
- Write the Configuration to the SCADAPack 575 Device.
- Create the Protocol-Specific Items and the Mimic.
- Upload the Configuration to Geo SCADA Expert.
- Control the Analog Output Point.
