Configuring the Guest User Account
Geo SCADA Expert has a Guest user account that is used automatically whenever a user accesses the system without logging on. The Guest user account is used when ViewX clients first start up and when a user is not logged on. When you first install Geo SCADA Expert, the Guest user account has no access permissions. We recommend that you leave the Guest user account with no access permissions unless there is a genuine requirement to allow access to the database without logging on. In which case, you MUST configure the Guest user account to have the minimum appropriate permissions and access that are required. This controls what information and features are available to users that access the system without logging on. As such, you MUST restrict the features that are available to unauthorized users.
SECURITY THREAT
We recommend that the Guest User Account should not be configured with Write access to the system.
To configure the Guest user account, you need to use three displays - the System Form, the Options window, and the Server Configuration Tool. The settings that you put in place on the displays should correspond so that there is no conflict between the settings. The settings on the System Form apply to every client whereas the settings on the Option window only apply to the client that is being configured. The settings on the Server Configuration Tool apply to Guest user access to the database via that particular Geo SCADA Expert server.
To configure the Guest User account, your own user account requires the Configure permission for the system (see Permissions for Database Items).
To configure the Guest user account, you need to:
- Define the Global Settings for the Guest User Account.
- Define the Client Specific Settings for the Guest User.
- Specify Whether the Guest User can Execute SQL Queries.
If you are using the Original WebX client, the Web user account, which is based on the settings of the Guest User account, can be used on that client. For more information, see Define the Global Settings for the Guest User Account, and see Define the Home Page for the Web User Account.
The Guest and Web User accounts are not available on Virtual ViewX clients.
