If you are adding or modifying a Standard type of custom field, you can use the Section setting to define the data section in which the field will be stored.
ATTENTION: Your choice of data section can affect system performance, so you need to choose an appropriate setting.
To define the data section for an extra field, you need to use the Edit Field window (see Add or Modify an Extra Field).
When you have displayed the Edit Field window, you can define the data section by using the Section setting:
- Section—Use the Section setting to choose the data section in which the field will be stored. There are three options:
- Configuration—The field will be stored in the configuration file. If you are adding a field that users will use to configure an item via a Form, you should select the Configuration option (as configuration fields are stored in the configuration data file). Other types of field should not use the Configuration section as changes to fields in this section cause the configuration data to be transferred from the main and standby server. This can slow down the system unnecessarily.
- Data—The field will be stored in the data file. If you are adding a field that will change frequently, such as a field that stores a calculated value, you should select the Data option.
- Dynamic—The field is not stored on disk, but is transferred from the Main server to the Standby server(s). You should use the Dynamic option for fields that are used for calculations that are not stored.
