This example shows how to configure Geo SCADA Expert to schedule a backup, compress the backup files, and then erase the individual backup files and sub-directories once the backup is complete. Only the resultant ClearSCADA_Backup_<System>.zip file is retained.
The file names and file path names in the example below are for illustrative purposes only. You will need to use file names and paths that are appropriate for your system.
The backup will run on your Main server. You need to set up the folders that you refer to in the backup settings on all the servers that might become a Main server.
Example:
In ViewX, a Backup item is created. It is named 'Server Backup' and is configured to have these settings:
- In Service: Enabled
- Severity: High
- Default Parent Directory: C:\ClearSCADA\
- Default Destination: Backup
- Trip Sequence Time: NOW
- Database: Enabled
- Registry: Enabled
- Historic Files: Enabled, Start Offset: Hour -2 Months, End Offset: Hour
- Historic Data: Enabled, Start Offset: Hour -2 Months, End Offset: Hour
- Alarm Summary: Disabled
- Event Journal: Disabled
- Configuration Changes: Disabled
- Compression Level: Optimal Compression
- Erase Files: Enabled.
A user triggers the backup manually. Geo SCADA Expert initially creates various sub-directories in the Default Destination directory 'Backup'; one sub-directory for each type of file that it is backing up. In each sub-directory, Geo SCADA Expert places a copy of the files that it is backing up. Once Geo SCADA Expert has compressed the files and included them in the ClearSCADA_Backup_<System>.zip file, it erases the copy of the individual backup files and the sub-directories in which they were located.
If the backup files ever need restoring, the relevant sub-directories and their contents can be extracted from the zip file (see Load your Backup Database Files)
