Preparation
Before you can successfully configure a scanner, you will need either:
- To have configured the Channel or Server with which the scanner is to be associated (see Configuring Channels on Simple Drivers).
Or:
- The name of the device (for example, the Node) on which the scanner is to scan data (see the driver-specific documentation).
You will also need to be aware of the significance of the scanner’s alarms and events in relation to the rest of your system—this will determine the priority that you allocate to each scanner.
You will need to establish which features are required for each scanner. You can configure each scanner to use a variety of features, including alarm redirection. Many of these features are optional and do not affect the success of communications. Optional features include:
- Alarm view
- Alarm redirection
- User methods.
If the features listed above are not configured, they are not used for the scanner (they will be left blank).
