How Do I Match the Configuration Settings in Geo SCADA Expert to My Field Device?
When configuring WITS Field Devices and WITS database items, you will need to match the settings in the database to those on the Field Device.
Wherever possible, Geo SCADA Expert uses the same terminology as the Worldwide Industrial Telemetry Standards (WITS). However, there are some notable exceptions:
- The database items that represent Field Devices are called Outstations in Geo SCADA Expert (for consistency with other drivers).
- WITS point state actions are referred to as Severity Types in Geo SCADA Expert. For example, a DNP3 event that causes the Field Device to open a connection is an 'alarm' in Geo SCADA Expert.
- WITS action inhibits are called alarm or event inhibits in Geo SCADA Expert.
However, other Field Device and Master Station manufacturers may use completely different terminology. When the terminology used in the Field Device is different to that used in Geo SCADA Expert, matching the settings can be difficult.
We recommend that you use the Field Device documentation and Geo SCADA Expert Help to discover the purpose of each setting. When you know the purpose of the settings, you should be able to match them according to their function, rather than name.
