Citrix or Remote Desktop Services Client - System Connections

ClearSCADA supports the Citrix XenApp 5 and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services remote desktop applications. (Microsoft Remote Desktop Services was formerly known as Microsoft Terminal Services.) With these applications, you can allow Citrix/Remote Desktop Services clients to have access to the features of ViewX without having ViewX installed locally.

To access ClearSCADA, a Citrix/Remote Desktop Services client connects to ViewX, which has to be running on the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server. The Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server creates a separate ‘instance’ of ViewX for each Citrix/Remote Desktop Services client, but only needs to run one ViewX application. The separate ‘instances’ of ViewX allow each Citrix/Remote Desktop Services client to interact with ClearSCADA independently, in the same way as if they were running ViewX locally.

For a Citrix/Remote Desktop Services client to be able to access ClearSCADA, the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server has to have ViewX installed and has to be set up to connect with the ClearSCADA server. You also need to configure a ViewX connection for each instance of ViewX that will run on the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server.

To configure a ViewX connection for an ‘instance’ used by a Citrix/Remote Desktop Services client, you need to:

  1. Access the ClearSCADA Client Configuration window on the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server Display the Client Configuration Window.
  2. Add and configure a new ViewX connection for each instance of ViewX that will need to run on the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server. The configuration of these ViewX connections is the same as when configuring a connection between the ClearSCADA server and a ViewX client ViewX Client - System Connections.

When you have created the required connections, your Citrix/Remote Desktop Services clients will be able to access the ViewX features without having ViewX installed locally. (They will use an ‘instance’ of ViewX that is running on the Citrix/Remote Desktop Services server).

You can check the status of the connections, and troubleshoot any connection problems in the same way as you would for a ViewX connection ViewX Client - System Connections.
