Design Mode

A 'file' type object is a database item for which you configure various properties using an Editor. ClearSCADA supports various 'file' type objects, including Mimics, Logic Programs, Reports,Trends, and X-Y Plots.

You display a 'file' type object in Design mode to access that object's document editing features. Engineers access 'file' type objects in Design mode to configure and edit the object’s configuration settings. For example, you would display a Mimic in Design mode if you want to edit or embed objects on that Mimic, edit Mimic script, create animations, or associate specific areas of the Mimic with pick actions. Similarly, you would display a Logic program in Design mode to code or edit that program. Likewise, you would display a Trend or X-Y-Z Plot in Design mode to edit that particular display's, axes' or trace's settings.

Operation-related features are unavailable in Design mode, even if your User Account has the Operate feature enabled. If you are configuring a 'file' type object and want to test whether the settings operate as intended, you will need to switch the display from Design mode to Run mode. This is because the operation-related features are only active in Run mode.

On a ViewX client, security permissions and menu options determine whether you can display a 'file' type object in Run mode or Design mode.

On a WebX client, you can only display 'file' type objects in Run mode. To configure a 'file' type object, you have to use a ViewX client.
