Extension Driver

Where a driver communicates using an open protocol, the different devices that can communicate using that protocol may support extra functionality to the core protocol. To enable ClearSCADA to communicate with such devices, some drivers support Extension Drivers—drivers that provide additional vendor-specific functionality, depending on the devices with which the driver is to communicate.

If the devices with which you want ClearSCADA to communicate use an extension driver, you need to install both the extension driver and its ‘parent’ driver.

Be aware that some extension drivers are licensed separately to their ‘parent’ driver.

Where a separate guide exists for an extension driver, you typically use that guide in conjunction with the guide for its ‘parent’ driver.

Some server configuration changes require you to restart the driver for those changes to come into effect. You restart an extension driver by restarting its 'parent' driver. Conversely, if you restart a 'parent' driver, the extension driver(s) that are running at the time will also be restarted.
