On some systems, ClearSCADA is both a SCADA Master and a Slave outstation. Installation of the appropriate ClearSCADA Slave driver enables a third-party server to use a particular protocol to obtain data from ClearSCADA. Additionally, installation of the appropriate ClearSCADA (master) driver(s) enables the ClearSCADA server to use the appropriate protocol(s) to retrieve data from and/or control points on outstations and/or PLCs.
This type of system setup might be required, for instance, if a system has a hierarchical structure whereby ClearSCADA and/or a third-party server provides control and monitoring features for different subsets of data.
