ATTENTION: This section only applies to User Accounts that are managed directly in ClearSCADA. With User Accounts that are associated with Windows or LDAP User Profiles, password management is performed via the relevant Windows domain or LDAP server.

Availability: This pick action is only available when the password dictionary for a user account contains passwords (that is, the user account’s password has been changed more than once).
You can use the Clear Password Dictionary action to remove any passwords currently stored in the password dictionary for a user account. You can then re-use any of the passwords that were in the password dictionary.
If you have user accounts that have passwords (and the Password Size is greater than 0), ClearSCADA will create a dictionary of passwords for each User. The password dictionary contains a limited number of the passwords that have been used for the user account, and is used to help ensure that new passwords are different to recently used passwords.
Example:
A user account has a password of ‘RCDENG1006’.
The password is changed to ‘RCDENG1117’ and the old password - ‘RCDENG1006’ - is added to the password dictionary.
If the user of that account then attempts to change the password back to ‘RCDENG1006’, ClearSCADA will refer to the password dictionary, detect that the password was recently used, and stop the user from applying that password.
The user is prompted to choose another password.
When the password dictionary is full (reaches the defined Password Size for the user account), the next password will replace the oldest password in the password dictionary. The oldest password can then be used as a password for the user account again (ClearSCADA only stops the use of passwords that are stored in the password dictionary).
To access the Clear Password Dictionary action for a user account:
- Log on via a user account that has the Control permission for the user account for which you want to empty the password dictionary.
- Browse to the User that has the password dictionary that you want to empty. There are many ways you can access the User, for example, you can browse to the User in the Database Bar or you can display a Users List and access the User from the list. You may also have Mimics that provide access to the pick action menu for the User.
- Select the Clear Password Dictionary action from the User’s context sensitive menu (object menu).
The User’s password dictionary is cleared of passwords. Any passwords that were in the password dictionary can now be re-used for the user account.
