Associate a WAV Sound File with a Severity Range

You can use the ClearSCADA Server Configuration Tool to associate a WAV sound file with any of the severity ranges. The sound file that you choose will be used instead of the default alarm bell sound when an alarm (of the relevant severity) is raised. This allows you to setup different sounds for each severity range so that operators can identify the severity of a new alarm by the type of sound that accompanies the alarm. For example, if you associate a WAV file named Siren.WAV with the highest severity range (Critical), and then any critical alarm that is raised will be accompanied by the Siren.WAV sound rather than the standard Alarm Bell sound.

The sound files can only be heard if the audible Alarm Bell is activated on the Alarm Banner.

To associate a WAV file with a severity range:

  1. Display the Add Severity window (see Add a Severity Range) or the Modify Severity window as appropriate (see Edit a Severity Range)
  2. Use the Select button feature of the Sound field to select the WAV file that you want to associate with the severity. The sound file will be used as the alarm bell sound for alarms of the selected severity.
  3. Select the OK button to confirm your choice and close the browse window.
  4. Select the OK button to confirm your selection and close the Modify Severity window or Add Severity window.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 inclusive for each severity range as required.
  6. Right-click on the system icon in the tree-structure, and select the Apply Changes option to apply the changes.

Once the changes have been implemented, the sound files will be used whenever an alarm of the appropriate severity is raised.

Now that you have associated a severity with a sound file, you can either proceed to configure other severities or you can continue with the server configuration.

When you associate new sounds with the severity ranges you need to restart any ViewX clients for the sounds to be applied.
