Initialize the Server Modem's SMS Message Storage

You may need to initialize and configure the Geo SCADA Expert GSM modem's SMS storage facility by using AT+ and AT^ commands. The commands that you enter should be consistent with the overall command sequence that Geo SCADA Expert follows to initialize the communication between Geo SCADA Expert and the Geo SCADA Expert GSM modem.

The Geo SCADA Expert modem initialization sequence is as follows:

1. Establish 'Command Mode'.
2. Execute (user-defined). This is the command in the Modem Command field on the PSTN tab. The default value is ATV1E0H0S0=1 (see Defining PSTN Settings for a Channel).
3. Check and Set 'Report Mobile Equipment Errors' (AT+CMEE=1).
4. Check the outstation modem SIM’s PIN1 Status, and unlock if necessary (AT+CPIN?). Send the PIN specified in the GSM SMS tab’s Modem PIN field.
5. Read the 'Modem Type' information. That is, the Manufacturer, Model and Version information in log (ATI).
6. Check and Set ‘Show Text Mode Parameters’ (AT+CSDH=1) so that additional header information is available to Geo SCADA Expert in received SMS messages. This enables Geo SCADA Expert to route messages to the correct outstation scanner.
7. Check and Set the 'Preferred Message Format' (AT+CMGF=1 is SMS Text Mode format, AT+CMGF=0 is SMS PDU Mode format).
8. Check and Set ‘Character Set’ (AT+CSCS="GSM" to use the GSM character set (in text mode)).

The user-defined SMS message storage initialization is as follows:

1. Set up the CMTI reporting of New Message indications for the 'Proactive Poll Modem' feature (if enabled) (AT+CNMI=1).

2. Enter the modem-specific AT commands that initialize the SMS message storage (see Define the GSM SMS Settings for a Channel). For more information about modem-specific AT commands, see the modem manufacturer's documentation.
