Preparation - PSTN Channels
You need to add an appropriate PSTN Channel for each telephone line that is used on your system.
To configure a PSTN channel, you need to have access to details of the outstation’s dial-up modem settings.
Often these settings are fixed, according to the type of dial-up modem being used. Refer to the documentation associated with the modems for these settings—you need to configure each PSTN channel to have the same settings as the modem with which it is associated.
Where any settings are not fixed, you need to be aware of which settings are being used for the dial-up modems on your system. The engineers that configure the outstations should create a list of the settings that they have configured. If you have access to such a list, you can use it to define those requirements.
In addition to the dial-up modem settings, you also need to know the:
- Telephone number for the line that is connected to the Geo SCADA Expert server’s modem.
- Type of communications for which the channel is being used (Dial In and/or Dial Out)
- Type of dialing supported by the telephone exchange (Pulse or Tone)
- Delays required to allow the channel to establish communications with an outstation following system start-up or modem connection
- Timeouts required to determine whether a call has failed
- Modem command used to initialize the modem
- Type of connection (see PSTN Connection Types).
You can configure each PSTN channel to use a variety of features
- Alarm view
- Alarm redirections
- User methods.
If the features listed above are not configured, they are not used for the selected PSTN channel (they will be left blank).
