Add a Group

You can use Groups to organize your database items into a logical hierarchy. The number of Groups you need to add will vary according to the requirements for your system.

We recommend that you store all of your database items in Groups or Group Instances (see Group Templates and Group Instances) as this improves the usability of the Database Bar—if the database items are ordered into logical Groups, users will be able to locate specific items much more easily.

You can include up to 14 levels of Groups and items within Groups on a system.

To add a Group folder:

  1. Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar).
  2. In the Database Bar, right-click on the System or Group folder to which you want to add the new Group.
A context sensitive menu is displayed.
  3. Select the Create New option.
    A further menu is displayed.
  4. Select the Group option.
    A further menu is displayed.
  5. Select the Group option from the further menu.
A Group is added to the root of the System or to the selected Group (depending on your selection in step 1). It is selected automatically, ready for you to enter its name.
  6. Enter a suitable name for the Group (taking into account the Geo SCADA Expert Naming Restrictions).
  7. Press the Enter key or select another part of the ViewX interface to confirm the entry.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 inclusive for each required Group.
