Configure the Common Properties of I/O Modules
The following properties appear at the top of the SCADAPack x70 tab on the configuration Forms of SCADAPack x70 I/O Modules:
- Device Configuration—Specify the SCADAPack x70 Device Configuration item that represents the SCADAPack x70 Device to which the I/O Module is connected, or on which the I/O are located. Use the browse button to display a Reference browse window and then select the required entry from the window.
- I/O Module Name—Specify a unique name for the I/O Module or SCADAPack x70 Device on which the I/O are located. The name has to begin with a letter or a number, and can be between 1 and 14 characters long. It can only contain letters, numbers, and underscores. It cannot contain any spaces.
- I/O Module Address—Only applicable on I/O Modules that represent plug-in modules (rather than built-in I/O). Specify the hardware address of the I/O Module. Enter the value directly in the field, or use the arrows on the spin box to select the required value from the available range. The address has to be unique; Geo SCADA Expert will indicate if the specified address is already in use or otherwise unacceptable.
With I/O Module database items that represent inputs and outputs that are built into the SCADAPack x70 device, the value of this field is hard coded to 0. On such I/O Modules, the field is 'greyed out' and unavailable for use.
- Digital Status Object—Specify the SCADAPack x70 Digital Configuration item that is to be used to indicate the communications status of the I/O Module or SCADAPack x70 device on which the I/O are located. The SCADAPack x70 Digital Configuration item has to exist on the SCADAPack x70 device to which the I/O Module is connected, or on which the I/O are located.
Although a Digital Status Object is optional, we recommend that you do configure and use this feature. By configuring such a Configuration item and referencing it using this field, you can use the Configuration item to monitor whether the I/O module is online (able to respond to requests for polls from the SCADAPack x70 device to which it is connected), or offline.
As this particular SCADAPack x70 Digital Configuration item references an internal digital input on the SCADAPack x70 device, it does not need mapping to an I/O Channel on the I/O Module's configuration Form. (You only use I/O Channels to map physical inputs and outputs.)
To monitor the I/O module's communications status in Geo SCADA Expert, you associate the Digital Configuration item with a protocol-specific SCADAPack x70 Digital or Binary Input Point.
