Abort a Database Backup

The topics in this section explain how to make a backup of your database at any time, typically for restoration or archival purposes. Geo SCADA Expert also has the ability to generate an automatic backup of the database whenever you upgrade the Geo SCADA Expert software on a server. This is a different type of backup. For more information, see Automatic Database Backup on Upgrade.

If an on-demand or scheduled database backup is taking place and you wish to cancel it, you should use the Abort Backup action (method). Abort Backup is only available for a Backup database item when a backup is underway. When selected or triggered, it instructs Geo SCADA Expert to stop the backup.

NOTICE

LOSS OF DATA

When you abort a backup, Geo SCADA Expert will place a (Backup Aborted) comment after the backup filename. Geo SCADA Expert will retain the aborted backup and the files that it contains. We recommend that you do not try to restore an aborted backup.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in loss of data.

To abort a database backup:

  1. Run ViewX and log on via a User Account that has the System Admin permission.
  2. Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar).
  3. In the Database Bar, right-click on the Backup item that is associated with the backup that is currently taking place.
  4. From the context-sensitive menu, select Abort Backup.

The Abort Backup method could also be triggered in the same way as any other method, for example, by a Logic program. But triggering Abort Backup for a Backup item will only have an effect if a backup is currently in progress (for that item).
