Configuring a Sofrel Outstation Set
An Outstation Set is a group of outstations that share one or more channels. The Sofrel driver supports the following types of Sofrel Outstation Set:
A set in which the outstations use a single direct channel to communicate with the server (see Configure an Outstation Set and see Define the Channel for a Direct Set).
You need to configure one Sofrel Direct Outstation Set for each group of Sofrel outstations that communicate via a particular direct channel.
A set in which each outstation can communicate with the server using either of two direct channels. Each outstation in the set can use either channel (see Defining a Channel Setting for a Shared Outstation Set.
You need to configure one Sofrel Shared Outstation Set for each group of Sofrel outstations that communicate via, and share, a particular pair of direct channels (see Configure an Outstation Set).
A set in which outstations communicate with the server using one of two direct channels (see Defining Channel Settings for a Switched Set).
As there are two direct channels, one channel is used for communications and the other is a backup channel. Geo SCADA Expert will switch the outstations from one channel to the other channel:
- If Geo SCADA Expert detects that the channel being used by the outstations has failed.
- If Geo SCADA Expert detects that a specific number of outstations that use the channel have failed.
You need to configure one Sofrel Switched Outstation Set for each group of Sofrel outstations that communicate via, and can switch between, a particular pair of direct channels.
For outstations that connect to Geo SCADA Expert via the telephone network, using an individual or shared dial-up modem (see Defining the PSTN Settings for a Channel).
You need to divide any PSTN outstations into groups and configure one Sofrel PSTN Outstation Set per group (see Configuring an Outstation Set).
Specify the features of each set using the fields on the appropriate Sofrel Outstation Set Form. Each Form has several tabs. For information on the fields on other tabs, see Tabs on Outstation Set Forms.
Minimum Configuration
For a Sofrel Outstation Set to be functional, you need to specify:
- The Channel(s) for the set (unless that set is a Sofrel PSTN Outstation Set—with PSTN outstations, the association with a channel is only made during run time).
You also need to put the set In Service and save the configuration.
These are the minimum requirements, and when configured, will result in a functional Sofrel Outstation Set.
