Web Browser Support

Geo SCADA Expert's newer web interface, Virtual ViewX, is designed to use most up-to-date HTML5-compatible web browsers to display Geo SCADA Expert data. The Virtual ViewX server uses a screen virtualization technology to render ViewX content in the web browser. Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards, and requires network access in order to obtain the data from the Geo SCADA Expert server.

In order to run Virtual ViewX, all Geo SCADA Expert servers must be running Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards; they cannot be running older versions of the software, or be set to emulate older versions.

Virtual ViewX is supported by Geo SCADA Expert 2019 onwards. We strongly recommend that you install the Virtual ViewX server on a different machine to the Geo SCADA Expert server. This is to avoid potential performance issues due to the number of resources that each application uses.

If you do install Geo SCADA Expert and Virtual ViewX on the same machine, both applications must have the same version and build number. This is because the applications share some resources.

The Original WebX server built into the database server of Geo SCADA Expert is still part of the product. Original WebX uses Microsoft’s ActiveX Controls technology to display Mimics, Lists, Trends, and so on. ActiveX Controls are only supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer; as such, the Original WebX client requires the 32-bit version of:

Both web servers (Virtual ViewX and Original WebX) can coexist on the same host, but for performance and security reasons we recommend installing them on separate machines.

WARNING

UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR OF APPLICATION (INTERNET EXPLORER 11)

There is a known issue with Internet Explorer 11’s Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Filter that can cause these versions of Internet Explorer to ‘hang’. This only applies when:

  • Using an Original WebX client (rather than a Virtual ViewX client) to access a Geo SCADA Expert server
  • Using Internet Explorer 11 to connect to Geo SCADA Expert over the Internet
  • Using IP addresses in the URL for the Geo SCADA Expert server
  • The default security settings for the Local Intranet zone have been modified.

For more information about this issue and instructions on how to prevent or correct this issue, see Internet Explorer 11 XSS Filter Issue - ‘Hanging’.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.
