Configure the Telemetry Computer Properties
Use the fields within the Telemetry Computer Configuration section of the X.29/TC Comms table to specify the connection properties of up to four DNP3 master station servers that are running the X.29 Packet Assembler/Disassembler (PAD) software. The servers are also known as Telemetry Computers (TCs).
For greatest efficiency, enter the most frequently contacted Telemetry Computer’s details in the left-most column, followed by the next most frequently contacted TC, as the X.29 driver processes the entries in order, from left to right.
- Telemetry Computer Number—Specify the identification number of the DNP3 master station server.
- PSTN Dial String—The outstation will normally communicate with each Telemetry Computer using serial comms. Depending on the system setup, the outstation may be able to ‘fall back’ to using a dial-up modem to communicate with the Telemetry Computer should the serial communications be detected as failed. If the outstation is configured to ‘fall back’, use the PSTN Dial String field to specify the telephone number that the outstation should use to contact the Telemetry Computer.
- X.25 Address—Use to specify the Telemetry Computer’s X.25 address. The address must be between 3 and 15 characters long.
Each DNP3 message that the outstation receives via its X.29-assigned serial port(s) includes an X.25 address. The outstation stores the messages in its internal driver list until it connects to the Telemetry Computer that is assigned that particular X.25 address. Once connected, it sends the messages that have the corresponding X.25 address to that device.
