Define the System Name and Type for a ViewX Client - System Connection
Each system to which the client can connect needs to be named via the Client Configuration window. The System Name that is allocated is the name that will be used to label the system within ViewX on the client; it does not rename the system at the server or on any other client.
Typically, each system is given the same name on each of the clients, but you can choose to alter the names on a per client basis if required. For example, 2 clients can access the same database, but the name of the system could be different on each client (even though both clients access the same database).
Each connection to a system also needs to have a Type that defines which system data is available to the client.
To define the system name and type for a system on a ViewX client:
- Display the Client Configuration Window for the connection that you want to add or edit.
- Enter the name of the system in the System Name field. The name that you enter will be shown as the name of the system in ViewX on the client that you are configuring.
- Use the Type combo box to choose to the type of system to which the client will connect. This setting determines which features are available via the client and you can choose from:
- ClearSCADA Server—Allows the client to access the ClearSCADA database, OPC data, OPC alarm and event data, and OPC historic data.
- OPC Data Server—Allows the client to access OPC data.
- OPC Alarm Server—Allows the client to access OPC alarm and event data.
- OPC Historic Server—Allows the client to access OPC historic data.
For a ViewX client, you should select the ClearSCADA Server option as this setting provides access to the ClearSCADA database(s), OPC data, OPC alarm and event data, and OPC historic data. The other options only provide access to a specific type of OPC data.
If you require more than one type of OPC server and do not want to use the ClearSCADA Server functionality, you should configure separate systems for each type of OPC server.
You can also define the System Name and Type settings by editing the Systems.xml file manually Use the Systems.xml File to Set Up a ViewX Client Connection.
