Define the User Location Sources
The properties described in this topic apply both to User Forms and User Pattern Forms. (User Patterns only apply to systems on which ClearSCADA can create new User accounts automatically as part of an External Authentication process. For more information, see Create User Accounts from a User Pattern.)
ClearSCADA clients can regularly report location information to the ClearSCADA server. This can be useful if you want to track users and determine their proximity to database items (such as outstations). Alarms can then be redirected appropriately. To use this functionality, set the location Source to Dynamic on the user's Location tab (see Use the Location Tab to Specify an Item's Geographic Coordinates in the ClearSCADA Guide to Geographical Location Support):
The following types of client can report location information to the server:
- ViewX—A standard ViewX client
- WebX—A WebX client that interacts with ClearSCADA using a web browser
- Mobile—The ClearSCADA Mobile App for the Android® and iOS® operating systems.
A client can report the following information to the server:
- WGS84 position co-ordinates (latitude and longitude in degrees)
- Altitude
- Position and altitude accuracy
- Date and time
- Heading
- Speed.
ViewX and WebX clients update their location information to the server when the user logs in. Mobile clients update the server as a result of a change in location. All clients will update the server no more than once a minute. ClearSCADA does not direct alarms to clients that are not logged in.
To specify which clients you want to update the server with location information:
-
Either:
- Display the relevant User Form (to define the settings that apply to an individual User account).
- Display the relevant User Pattern Form (if applicable to your system, to define the settings that ClearSCADA is to apply to new User accounts that it might be triggered to create automatically at logon.)
- Select the General tab and scroll down to the User Location Sources check boxes.
- Define the User Location Sources settings for the user account.
- Select the check boxes for the clients that you want to update the server with location information.
- Clear the check boxes for the clients that you don't want to update the server with location information.
