User Accounts for Third Party Applications
Third Party applications such as OPC client applications also access the ClearSCADA system via a user account. The type of access that is permitted for Third Party applications is dependent on whether the Third Party application supports client security:
- If the Third Party application supports client security, the Third Party application will use a standard ClearSCADA user account. The user of the Third Party application will be prompted to log on via a ClearSCADA user account when the Third Party application accesses the ClearSCADA database. The security settings of the ClearSCADA user account apply regardless of the type of data access—when a user logs on via a Third Party application, the same user permissions are applied as when the user logs on via ViewX or WebX.
- If the Third Party application does not support client security, it will use the Guest user account when it accesses the ClearSCADA system. By default the guest account has no access to the system. Access must granted to the guest account and you must be careful what access is granted to the guest account as it will open the system to anyone.
This is usually suitable for Third Party applications as they are often used for retrieving data for reports etc. The read only access also means that unauthorized users are unable to access control and configuration features in ClearSCADA.
