Server Emulation

ClearSCADA includes a server emulation tool that allows you to choose a version of ClearSCADA for the server. This is useful when upgrading a system as it allows systems with a mixture of new and old clients to run documents such as Mimics and Trends (the documents are saved in a format that can be recognized by every client that is connected to the server). The server emulation means older clients can still access the documents that are created and altered on newer clients.

When using the server emulation feature, you need to set the server to emulate a version of the ClearSCADA software that is compatible with the oldest clients on your system (the clients that run the oldest version of ClearSCADA).

If a user attempts to display a document that has been saved in a version that is not supported by the client, the document display will show an 'unsupported file format' diagnostics message. This means that the document has been saved on a client that runs a later version of ClearSCADA. (The client showing the diagnostics message runs an older version of ClearSCADA than the client on which the document was saved). You can rectify this problem by using the Save All Documents feature (see Converting Unsupported Files into Supported Files).
