Points on Simple Drivers

ClearSCADA uses Points to represent the calculated values, measuring instruments or control devices that are connected to the scanners on your system. The type of point differs, depending on the type of calculation, measuring instrument or control device that the point represents.

The point types that are supported by simple drivers differ, depending on the driver—for a list of supported points, see the driver-specific documentation.

Before you configure a point in ClearSCADA, carry out any necessary Preparation so that you can specify the appropriate properties for the point in the ClearSCADA database.

You configure the points required on your system using the appropriate Point Forms (see Create and Configure a Point in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Point Configuration).

Each Point Form has several tabs (see Tabs on Point Forms). Use the tabs to define different aspects of point configuration.

This guide explains features that are common to many points on simple drivers, including how to:

For information on configuring the properties that appear on the <Point Type>, <Driver Type>, or Control tabs of the Point Form, see the appropriate driver documentation, along with the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Point Configuration. The specific driver guides explain the point types and properties that are driver-specific. The ClearSCADA Guide to Core Point Configuration cover aspects of point configuration that are common to many drivers.

For information on other tabs, see Tabs on Point Forms.

For information on the minimal amount of configuration that you can undertake to produce a functional point in ClearSCADA, see Minimum Configuration.
