Acknowledge an Alarm with Comment

If you select the Acknowledge with Comment option, a window opens for you to enter a comment.

If a set of standard Alarm Acknowledgment comments are configured on your system, you can either overtype the existing entry with your own comment, or select a suitable standard comment from a pop-up list.

The comment is a brief message that can be viewed by any user who has access to the point’s Status display, where the comment is displayed as part of the State Alarm attribute (see Status Displays in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients).

Other changes to how the alarm is displayed are the same as for Acknowledge an Alarm.

Your User Account may be configured to allow you to Select Multiple Alarms. If so, you will be able to acknowledge more than one alarm at a time by holding down the CTRL button while you select each alarm.

If you usually have access to the Acknowledge with Comment option, but that option is not available, the ability to acknowledge alarms might be restricted to a particular User, User Group, or ViewX workstation. Use the View Status option to view the Status display for the item and ascertain whether such a restriction is in force. For further information, see Set Responsibility Action in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to Alarm Redirection, and see Standard Alarm States in the Geo SCADA Expert Guide to ViewX and Virtual ViewX Clients.

To acknowledge an alarm without entering a comment, select the Acknowledge or Acknowledge Alarms option, rather than the Acknowledge with Comment option (see Acknowledge an Alarm).

NOTE: In addition to the pick actions mentioned here, Geo SCADA Expert provides various methods that enable activities to be performed on alarms programmatically. This includes methods that are designed to trigger activities at specific times, such as the AcceptAtTime method that can be used to specify the time at which Geo SCADA Expert is to acknowledge an alarm and to optionally log a comment for that acknowledgment. For more information on such methods, see the Database Schema (specifically the Methods section in the CAlarm class).
